Dubrovnik, Croatia is a remarkable town, not the least of which for its shocking beauty. Maybe it was the romance of traipsing around a walled city or how the light reflected off of the ancient stone, but I loved every second of my time in this popular seaside destination. One of the coolest spots in town though is also one of the hardest to find, but it’s well worth the effort as this bar arguably enjoys the best view in the world.
My guide that afternoon led us without pause through narrow alleys and side streets I would have never guessed to exist and then, after one turn I noticed a strange yellow sign beckoning. “Cold drinks with the most beautiful view” with an arrow pointing down a deserted path indicated our next stop. Stooping down to bend my 6’2” frame through an ancient doorway, I lifted my head in shock and amazement as I reemerged on the other side. There on the side of the sea cliffs surrounding Dubrovnik was a bar, nestled in between the rocks.
Cafe Buža, which means hole in the wall, enjoys what may be the most stunning bar location in the world and they definitely know it. Tables and chairs are positioned so that guests get the best views of the Adriatic Sea, the Island of Lokrum (home to some Game of Thrones scenes) and the Dalmatian coastline. I just stood there in awe, which is how most of the patrons looked as well. I’ve never seen anything like it and that obviously is the main draw to the cafe as the prices are a little high and as mentioned, it’s not the easiest place to find.
But where else can you sit on the side of a city, watch the sunset and soak up every moment of magic that visiting Dubrovnik is all about? To get to Buža, follow the excellent directions on the cafe’s website and capture your own special moment.
What do you think, is this the best cafe view in the world or have you seen something else even better?
